Highland Wildlife Park

Located in the majestic mountains of the Cairngorms National Park, the Highland Wildlife Park is the home to many popular as well as endangered animal species and many other worth-seeing attractions. Highland Wildlife Park is somewhat different from a typical safari you visit.

The park is owned by the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland, the main aim of this park is not just to welcome tourists but also to conserve rare animal species. You can walk or drive through the animal enclosures and have a closer look at the wildlife. If you are a genuine animal lover, then this place deserves a must-visit from you.

ENDANGERED SPECIES

One of the main concerns of the authorities at the park is to conserve the endangered species and allow them to breed. The mountainous surroundings feel like a natural habitat for the animals so they breed easily. Some breeding enclosures are not open for tourists and visitors so the animals won’t feel threatened or disturbed by them. Some of these endangered species include polar bears, snow leopards, Amur tigers, red panda, and white-lipped deer. However, the animals are breeding and the reserve has celebrated up to 48 births so far.

OTHER ANIMALS IN THE PARK

In addition to the endangered species, you will find many of your favourite animal species here. From penguins to tigers, the park houses many beautiful and majestic creatures. Arctic fox, European bison, grey wolf, red panda, Northern lynx, Himalayan monal, and many other species are present here. In enclosures of monkeys, pelicans, lemurs, etc. you can walk through and interact with the animals as well. Moreover, for other species such as deer, bison, horses, elk, etc. you can just drive through the Safari Road to catch a closer glimpse of these majestic animals.

WHAT ELSE CAN YOU DO?

As the Highland Wildlife Park is located in the Cairngorms National Park, there are tons of other tourist attractions here you can visit. You can go cycling, hiking, or climbing at different hiking routes in the park. There are many beautiful waterfalls near you can stop by. You can go visit the Rothiemurchus Forest and witness the natural woodland in its full bloom. You can also visit the local town, Aviemore, explore more about the local culture and don’t forget to visit Loch Morlich.

All in all, Highland wildlife park is worth your time and visit. It is the perfect spot for adults as well as children to enjoy. You can plan many activities such as a picnic with family, a hiking tour with friends, etc. while you are at the Cairngorms National Park.
